Location: 33-47 Foster Road, East Falmouth MA 02536
Applicant:  Beach Committee & The 300 Committee
Allocation: $290,000
Year/Article: April 2007, A15

In 2007 the Town purchased a 1.9-acre beachfront parcel contiguous to the west end of Menauhant Beach on Foster Road for $700,000 from the Haddad family. The parcel provides storm buffering and erosion protection for Menauhant Beach as well as passive and active recreation. It also provides a permanent undeveloped green buffer between the beach and the homes on Foster Road. Funding for the purchase included $110,000 from The 300 Committee and $290,000 from the Community Preservation Fund, appropriated by Town Meeting in April 2007. The parcel includes a wide variety of habitats, including a wetland, a coastal dune system, and 700 linear feet of beach on Vineyard Sound.

The Town in turn granted a Conservation Restriction to The 300 Committee with the reserved rights to install educational signage; create an ADA-compliant walkway; conduct educational and research activities; install sight-pervious fencing without impeding wildlife passage; conduct habitat restoration and dune and beach nourishment; and construct a pervious driveway and parking area to allow for up to two handicapped parking spaces, a passenger drop-off area, and emergency vehicle access. These reserved rights are subject to protection of the Town’s interest in preserving the dune structure and vegetation that stabilize it.
